Them chickens is ash and I'm lotion. What the? Then again, she's better when she's not making sense. Because for Mariah, emancipation means break beats, 70s groove belt-outs and lots of milkshake shaking. Which is wonderful. "It's Like That" sets the pace of the album, sexy, smoldering and a little bit stupid. The jungle in its playful R&B reverbs and tickles. Pharrell Williams produced "Say Somethin'" makes me want to break things with my ass; the live drum sampling throws the hip-hop booty bass off balance, and what a smooth disaster it is. ***
